A set of questions regarding artificial intelligence (AI) was included for the first time in the regular survey conducted on the “Our Society” Panel at the end of March and beginning of April 2026. This press release relates to the findings regarding knowledge, experiences, and general attitudes toward AI, and focuses on the level of concern and enthusiasm regarding the development of AI, the expected impact of AI on respondents’ personal lives, and opinions on the areas in which artificial intelligence should be used and the degree of autonomy it should have.
Nearly nine out of ten citizens (87%) feel at least some level of concern regarding the current development of artificial intelligence (AI). More than two-fifths of respondents (43%) feel enormous concern (8%) or at least significant concern (35%). One-tenth of Czechs feel no concern at all (9%).
Enthusiasm about the development of artificial intelligence is less common than concern: more than one-fifth of respondents (22%) feel enormous or great enthusiasm, while three-quarters (75%) overall report little (52%) or no (23%) enthusiasm.
Approximately one-quarter of respondents view the impact of AI development on their personal lives in the coming years as positive (24%), and a similar proportion view it as negative (22%). The most common response is a neutral assessment, reported by more than two-fifths of respondents (43%).
When expressing opinions on selected areas of AI application, the Czech public is cautious. Across the areas surveyed, citizens most often accept the use of AI as a tool to assist humans, or state that AI should not be used at all. Only a small proportion of respondents support AI operating completely autonomously.
The strongest opposition to any use of AI is found in decisions regarding how to govern the state (60%), in matters of faith and spirituality (51%), and in choosing a partner on dating apps (49%). Thus, people most often reject the involvement of AI in areas of political, personal, or value-based decision-making.
Only a small portion of the public supports AI operating completely independently. The lowest levels of opposition to any use of AI are found in issuing extreme weather forecasts (8%), developing new medications (14%), and identifying criminal suspects (16%), that is, primarily in technical or data-driven areas.
