In the summer of 2024, the CVVM SOÚ AV ČR, v. v. i. included a set of questions on corruption in its regular Our Society survey. Citizens expressed their opinion on the prevalence of corruption in the Czech Republic and also assessed perceived levels of corruption in selected institutions and areas of public life.
- Only 7% of respondents believe that very few public officials are corrupt. In the contrary 14% of respondents believe that almost all of these officials are involved in corruption.
- Comparison with the results of previous surveys shows that the Czech public has long been sceptical about the level of corruption, however, this view has been changing in recent years and in the current survey the level of scepticism and belief in the presence of corruption among the Czech public is at its lowest level to date.
- In an overall comparison of different institutions and areas of public life, the greatest scepticism among citizens is in the case of corruption within political parties, with just under a third (30%) describing it as almost the highest and two-fifths (34%) of respondents describing it as the highest (i.e. giving it a score of 4 or 5).
- The Czech public perceives banks and money institutions as relatively least affected by corruption, with approximately two-fifths (53%) of respondents rating them as not at all or not very corrupt. The educational system is also rated as relatively little affected by corruption, with 52% of citizens giving it a score of 1 or 2.
