Public views on the acceptability of loans and the level of debt of citizens and the state - April 2025

The most acceptable loans for the Czech public are for housing (79%), business (74%) and studies (72%), while the least acceptable are loans for holidays (3%) and Christmas presents (5%).
Opinions on the acceptability of loans for housing, business, studies and cars vary according to age (younger people report higher acceptability), education (more educated people report higher acceptability) and household income (those who are better off with their income report higher acceptability). No statistically significant association was found for the other items.

Just under three quarters (72%) of respondents consider the level of debt of the population to be high, with more than 11% more (83%) considering the debt of the state to be very high.
91% of respondents consider loans to be a risk. At the same time, 70% believe that borrowing money and acquiring things on debt is a natural part of life nowadays. And only 35% think that borrowing is something to be ashamed of.
