Public about their fears and perceived societal threats - May 2025

Almost nine out of ten citizens (88%) feel safe in the Czech Republic at the moment, while more than a tenth of the public (12%) do not feel safe in the Czech Republic. As regards the respondents' place of residence, the feeling of safety is even more frequent here (93%), on the other hand, 7% of Czech citizens over 15 years of age do not feel safe in their place of residence.
Men and women differ significantly in their perceived sense of safety, with men more often stating that they feel definitely safe in the Czech Republic in general and in their place of residence, while women chose this answer less often and also more often stated that they feel rather unsafe.

he overwhelming majority of the Czech public identified international organised crime (60%), terrorist groups or individuals (58%), wars (58%) and the global economic crisis (55%) as a major real security threat to the Czech Republic.
On the other hand, the Czech public feels least threatened in relation to foreigners living in the Czech Republic (17% consider them a major threat).
The assessment of the severity of each type of threat varies significantly by gender, age, education and standard of living.
