Self-Classification on the Left-Right and Conservative-Liberal Scales of Political Orientation - June 2025

The Public Opinion Research Center of the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences included in its regular survey on the Our Society Panel in June 2025 a set of questions focusing on the self-classification of Czech citizens on the left-right and conservative-liberal political scales.

The majority of Czech society feels to be right-wing oriented (38%) as opposed to left-wing oriented (22%). Czech citizens also feel more conservative (29%) than liberal (25%).

In none of the age groups does left-wing orientation prevail over right-wing orientation. The largest representation of the left wing is among people aged 15–19 (26%) and 65 and over (30%).

Liberal orientation prevails among respondents aged 15–39, while conservative orientation prevails among respondents aged 40 and over. The percentage of people who perceive themselves as liberal also increases with higher levels of education.

Voters of the SPOLU coalition (78% of whom identified as right-wing), Starostové (56%), and Motoristé sobě (50%) most often identify as right-wing. Voters for the Stačilo! political party (65%), the ANO movement (36%), and the Czech Pirate Party (32%) feel most left-wing.

Conservative orientation prevails among voters of the Stačilo! political party (50%), the ANO movement (38%), Motoristé sobě (34%), and the SPD (33%). A more liberal orientation then prevails among voters for the Czech Pirate Party (56%), the SPOLU coalition (37%), and the Starostové political party (32%).

Due to a change in the CVVM survey methodology, the results of the present survey are not directly comparable to the results of previous surveys. More information about the new methodology can be found in this press release.
