Public Opinion on Pension Reform
In the November research CVVM focused on the views of citizens on the pension system and pension reform. This press release presents the views of the Czech public on the possible crisis of the pension system and the need to reform the current system. It was also investigated to what extent Czech people are watching the debate on pension reform, and they were asked knowledge questions about certain aspects related to the pensions and social insurance.
Citizens' Views on Financial Security in Retirement and Pension Reform
In November 2010 CVVM focused on the views of citizens on the pension system and pension reform. Respondents were asked whether they concern for their financial situation in retirement age, and whether the state paid pensions can secure them social welfare. There were also examined the views of citizens on different measures in the pension system, and views on the development of pension after any kind of pension reform will be done.

Citizens on Some Issues of Social Policy - November 2010
In November 2010 the Public Opinion Research Centre survey has focused extensively on issues of social policy. The survey examined some more general issues like a question, what should be the role of the state and what the role of citizens in social security, whether it should be a strictly targeted system, and whether the social security system in our country is too generous or too weak. People were asked also, how much they think the government cares about the social situation of citizens, and how much the social security system in Czech Republic is abused by its beneficiaries.
Public Opinion on the Austerity Program of the Government
In October 2010 the regular CVVM survey included questions related to austerity program of the government. Respondents should have expressed their opinion on the need for economic changes and declared their awareness of the austerity measures which the government was preparing. People also should have expressed agreement or disagreement with those measures. The CVVM poll asked Czechs to say, whether the impact of the measures will be distributed righteously in the Czech society and how forthcoming changes in the state budget will affect selected areas of life.
Citizens on Economic Situation of Their Households - October 2010
In October survey CVVM SOÚ AV ČR examined how Czech citizens see the financial situation of their households. They evaluated whether it is difficult to manage with their earnings, but also talked about attitudinal feeling of poverty. 5 % of citizens indicated their household to be rich, whilst 35 % consider it to be poor. Three fiths of respondents (59 %) regard their household as neither rich nor poor.
Evaluation of Some Social Conditions - October 2010
From all social conditions included in the survey people evaluate mostly positively only the accessibility of education (74 % positively, 19 % critically) and the health care (60 % : 38 %). All other monitored areas of social conditions - i.e. a chance to get a flat (24 % positively, 70 % critically), financial situation to start a family with children (17 % : 79 %), social security for the elderly (11 % : 83 %), life conditions for the handicapped (20 % : 64 %) and a chance to get a job (21 % : 77 %) - are evaluated largely critically.
Czech Public on Budget
The October survey of CVVM was focused on budget issues. Respondents were giving their opinion whether a better way of decreasing of current deficit would be reduction of budgetary expenditures, or increase of state’s revenues. Then they picked areas where the cuts in budgetary outlays should be made in preference, and on the other hand areas, which should be spared of any restrictions. The survey also examined people’s views of planned deficit of 135 billion CZK for 2011.
