As part of its regular survey, the Centre for Public Opinion Research of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic focused on the views of Czech citizens on the roles of men and women in the family between March and May 2024.
According to the opinions of the Czech public, the domain of men in the family should be primarily the performance of routine household repairs, which should be carried out by a man according to just under four-fifths (78%) of respondents, and the financial provision of the household, which should be handled by a man according to just under half (48%) of citizens.
Women are the most likely in Czech society to do the cooking and cleaning of household activities. More than two-fifths (43%) of respondents think that women should cook and more than a third of the Czech public (34%) agree that women should clean the house.
Despite the Czech public's perception of the division of roles in various activities, the prevailing opinion for most activities is that both partners should do them equally. This view of most activities has become quite widespread over the last four years. More than nine tenths of the public agree that both partners in the family should pursue hobbies (95%), cultivate social contacts (93%) and further their education (93%).
