Emigration from the Czech Republic and the Czech Public’s Views on the UN Goals – January 2026

Nearly half of the public (47%) believes that people who leave the Czech Republic to move to other countries are neither a benefit nor a detriment to the Czech Republic, while more than a third (35%) view them as a detriment. According to the Czech public, the by far most common motivation for people to decide to leave our country and live elsewhere is economic; nearly three-quarters of respondents chose this answer.
As for opinions on how common or rare it is for people from the Czech Republic to leave to live in other countries, the public is significantly divided. Nearly half (48%) state that these departures are very or somewhat common, while a comparable portion of the public (45%) believes, on the contrary, that it is somewhat or very rare.

Nine out of ten Czech citizens (91%) have no interest in leaving the Czech Republic in the next three years to work or live in another country; 6% are interested in moving abroad, and the remaining 3% are undecided for now.
Those interested in leaving the Czech Republic are mostly already taking concrete steps toward doing so; most often, they discuss their plans with friends, family, or neighbors (71%); nearly half (44%) are saving money for the move; and just under a third (30%) have already organized their move abroad.
Approximately two-fifths of respondents selected good health (42%) and peace, justice, and strong institutions (40%) as the most important of the UN’s global goals for themselves and their families, with these two goals dominating the entire ranking quite significantly.
