Attitudes toward the rights of LGBT+ people – March/April 2026

Majority of respondents (80%) agree with the statement that medical gender transition should be conditional on age, specifically from the age of 18.

The second most frequently supported statement is that gays and lesbians should have the right to enter into a registered partnership, with which a majority (70%) of respondents agree.

Two thirds (68%) of the Czech population also agree with the statement that gays and lesbians should have the right to adopt the children of their partner with whom they live.

Lower levels of agreement are generally evident for statements concerning the rights of trans people. Only 16% of respondents expressed agreement with the statement that trans people should be able to change their legal gender on the basis of self-declaration. By contrast, almost half (47%) of respondents expressed disagreement.

A majority (52%) of the Czech public expect some degree of difficulty in coexistence with other people after someone comes out as homosexual.

While a majority (65%) of respondents have a gay or lesbian person among their friends or acquaintances, only 14% reported knowing a trans person.

Due to a change in the CVVM’s research methodology, the results of this survey are not directly comparable with the results of previous surveys conducted up to 2024.
