Citizens' opinions on selected family policy measures - April/May 2024

The CVVM has included a set of questions on social and family policy in its regular Our Society survey, which will be conducted between March and May 2024. Respondents evaluated the government's overall approach to the social situation of families with children and commented on specific measures related to family policy.

More than two-fifths (42%) of respondents consider the government's concern for the social situation of families with children to be adequate, while more than half (52%) perceive it as insufficient. Since the last survey in 2020, the proportion of dissatisfied citizens has increased by 24 pp.

The government's concern about the social situation of families with children is currently rated comparably to 2014, but the negative rating is not at the historically most critical level it was in 2012.

Around nine out of ten Czechs agree with the introduction of flexible working hours or part-time work for parents with young children and an increase in the number of nurseries. The lowest proportion of respondents agree with merging child benefit, allowance and housing benefit with the subsistence allowance (48% agree, 39% disagree).

Citizens consider increasing the number of nurseries, increasing child benefit, reducing taxes for people with dependent children and promoting flexible working or part-time work for parents with young children as priority measures.
