Interest in Politics, Involvement of Czechs in Public Life and Their Understanding of Politics – Autumn 2023

In October and November 2023, the Public Opinion Research Centre asked a set of questions concerning the opportunities of citizens to participate in political issues and their understanding of politics in general. We also investigated the extent to which Czech citizens are currently interested in politics.

More than four-fifths (85%) of respondents believe that political parties care more about voters' votes than their opinions, and only 15% agree that elected politicians care about what citizens think.

Almost three-fifths (57%) of Czech society think they have a good understanding of important political issues and more than half (53%) of Czech citizens consider themselves sufficiently qualified to participate in politics.

In general, less than half (46%) of the Czech public is interested in politics.
