Evaluation of president and a type of presidential election

As a part of first survey made in 2007 by CVVM there were questions concerning presidency and other questions focused on evaluation of some aspects of presidential function of current Czech president Václav Klaus.

We asked all respondents, what type of presidental election is the most suitable in the Czech Republic. Czech public mostly share an opinion that all voters should elect in presidential elections, this was supported by two thirds of respondents.

Almost a quarter of people find the most suitable way in election of a president by Parliament, every tenth Czech citizen suppose a wide group of voters as the most optimal way how to elect a president.

According to results the political commitment of the candidate for presidency is not important for most Czech people. Almost two quarters of Czech citizens think that the most suitable candidate for presidency should be politically independent and sixth of people would like to see in this office a person who was never in politics. 6 % of respondents find a Member of political Party as a optimal candidate for presidency (together with 2 % of people who suppose a chief of political Party to be the most suitable candidate).

The results of the survey also show us that Czech citizens evaluate current activity of Václav Klaus as president mostly positively.
