Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation - August/September 2023

In the period from the end of July to the mid of the last third of September 2023 within the regular survey the Public Opinion Research Centre questioned respondents about their confidence in constitutional institutions. In this survey there was a question about their trust to the President, both Chambers of Parliament, the Government, and Local and Regional Councils.

Czech public on homesteading and gardening - June/July 2023

A significant part of the regular CVVM Our Society survey conducted in June and July 2023 was dedicated to the topic of homesteading and gardening.

These topics are part of the activities of the Institute of Sociology of the CAS within the framework of the AV21 Food for the Future Strategy.

Specifically, we investigated whether people engage in various activities related to subsistence farming, whether they produce their own food (fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, etc.) and if so, where and why, whether people who grow or produce something in their households give these products to someone or exchange them with someone, or with how many people.

We were also interested in the other side of the story, i.e. whether people themselves receive home-grown or home-produced food from someone.

Last but not least, we also looked at how bio-waste is managed and how the current food supply compares to ten years ago.

Food Waste and the Shopping and Consumer Behaviour of Czech Households – June/July 2023

In its regular survey the Public Opinion Research Centre at the Institute of Sociology, Czech Academy of Sciences, examined the Czech public’s attitudes and opinions on the issue of food waste. More than a half (52%) of the respondents consider food waste to be a big problem, more than two-fifths (42%) think food waste is not right, but there are more urgent problems that need to be solved and only twentieth (5%) of the Czech public does not consider food waste to be a big problem in society.

Self-Classification on the Left-Right Scale of Political Orientation - June/July 2023

In the summer survey the Public Opinion Research Centre gave all respondents a question that at eleven-point scale measures the left-right political orientation: "In politics, people sometimes talk about right and left. Where would you place yourself ranked on this scale?"

Czech Citizens about Defense of the Czech Republic – June/July 2023

In the June and July 2023 the Public Opinion Research Centre included a block of questions connected to NATO and defense of Czech Republic in general in its survey (find out more in previous article). Questions focused mainly on ability of the Czech Republic to defend its own sovereingty, attitudes towards defense expenditures, and exaluation of army's quality in comparison to developed western countries.

Czech citizens on the Czech Republic’s membership in NATO – June/July 2023

In the summer 2023 Public Opinion Research Centre carried out a survey about NATO. Within the project were examined satisfaction with membership in NATO. Almost two-thirds (67%) of Czech citizens are satisfied with the Czech Republic's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, more than a quarter (26%) is dissatisfied.

According to the summer 2023 survey of CVVM, 16% of people evaluate the current economic situation in the Czech Republic as good, 26% view it as neither good nor bad, and 57% consider it to be bad.

Citizens on Constitutional Competencies of a President - June/July 2023

Summer 2023 survey made an inquiry into attitudes of citizens towards constitutional competencies of a president. Questions in the survey concerned the range of presidential competencies in general and also with regard to several particular competencies such as granting of amnesty or stopping a lawsuit, dismissing the Chamber of Deputies and refusing the law passed by the parliament.

Attitudes of Citizens to the Presidential Office – June/July 2023

Summer survey of CVVM asked questions regarding the attitudes towards the office of president of the Czech Republic. Questions focused on the mechanism of presidential election, president's relation to the government and government appointment, on the position of president in the foreign policy and on the problems president should pay attention in his or her office.
