Public opinion on foreign nationals settling in the Czech Republic – March 2019

In March 2019 the Public Opinion Research Centre examined as a part of its survey the opinions of the Czech public on long-term or permanently residing foreigners in the Czech Republic.

Specifically, there were examined attitudes whether there are too many, appropriate amount, or too few foreigners living in the country, whether foreigners should have the right for the long-term residing in the country and whether the state should allow them to settle here permanently. There were also examined the reasons for the acceptance of immigrants and whether they should adapt to Czech customs.

Security Threats for the Czech Republic in View of Public - November 2018

In November 2018, respondents had to assess security threats related to selected groups in the Czech Republic and they were also expressing views on threats by war, epidemics, natural disasters, economic crisis or resource crisis. These two questions were amended with an open question trying to find out, which countries represent a security threat for the Czech Republic. The survey also focused on expectations concerning the future of the personal life of citizens, the future of the Czech society and the future of the whole humankind.

Public Opinion on Abortion, Euthanasia and Death Penalty – May 2018

In May 2018 within the regular survey the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on issues that could be perceived as morally controversial. Specifically, respondents answered questions concerned with the abortion, euthanasia and death penalty.

Czech public opinion on the rights of homosexuals – May 2018

In May 2018, CVVM included a block of questions related to tolerance of Czech society towards homosexual oriented men and women into its regular survey Our Society. At the same time, there were questions focused on the attitudes of citizens whether homosexual people should have certain rights: right to enter into a registered partnership, to marry, to adopt children from "institutions" - so-called children's homes, and to adopt the children of their partner. The highest support has gained the right to enter into a registered partnership – 74 % of respondents stated that homosexuals should have this right. We also asked whether respondents have some homosexual people among their friends or acquaintances. According to our research, 34 % of Czech citizens have homosexual friends. On the other hand, 55 % of respondents said they have none.

The Czech public's views on foreign nationals - March 2018

In March 2018 Public Opinion Research Centre included a block of questions connected to foreigners. Respondents commented on foreigners who live in the Czech Republic and in their place of residence. Research also included set of questions about general attitudes connected to foreigners such as their impact on Czech culture, unemployment, health ricks and economy. Respondents also evaluated whether foreigners are the solution of problem of ageing population in the Czech Republic.

In the March survey the Public Opinion Research Centre of the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic posed to all respondents a question: "How satisfied are you with your life? Are you very satisfied, rather satisfied, neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, rather dissatisfied, very dissatisfied?"

Tolerance to Selected Groups of Population - March 2018

In March 2018 Public Opinion Research Centre focused on social distance among the majority population and different social groups. Social distance was measured by a specific question: people should pick from a list of 15 different groups those, which they would not like to have as neighbours.
