Public concerns about the spread of coronavirus - Our society - special - May 2020

More than three quarters of respondents are concerned about the health of their loved ones (37% definitely) and the deterioration of the economic situation in the Czech Republic (31% definitely).

A quarter of respondents are concerned about a supply disruption, less than a third about insufficient hospital capacity.

Less than half of the respondents are worried about their own health, people in senior age are more worried, and people with poorer health are significantly more concerned.

Satisfaction with various aspects of personal life - Our society - special - May 2020

Satisfaction with all the examined aspects of life significantly prevails in the population.

The three highest values of satisfaction on an eleven-point scale were chosen for most aspects by about half of the respondents. A lower share was found for future security (40%) and health (45%).

Only 5-11% of respondents were dissatisfied (points 1-4).

Satisfaction is conditioned by the achieved education, the material level of households and the state of health. The level of satisfaction is not related to gender and is not linearly dependent on age.

Concerns about the impact of coronavirus on the household economy are reflected in the level of satisfaction.

In its special research, the Public Opinion Research Center focused on the coronavirus crisis and citizens' experiences with it. Special research was carried out within the Our Society project, CVVM is responsible for the questions and design of the survey, data were collected by Median. In May, more than four-fifths (85%) of Czech citizens over the age of 18 were interested in the situation regarding the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The Czech public's views on foreign nationals – March 2020

In March 2019 Public Opinion Research Centre included a block of questions connected to foreigners. Respondents commented on foreigners who live in the Czech Republic and in their place of residence. Research also included set of questions about general attitudes connected to foreigners such as their impact on Czech culture, unemployment, health risks and economy. Respondents also evaluated whether foreigners are the solution of problem of ageing population in the Czech Republic.

Tolerance to Selected Groups of Population - March 2020

In March 2020 Public Opinion Research Centre focused on social distance among the majority population and different social groups. Social distance was measured by a specific question: people should pick from a list of 15 different groups those, which they would not like to have as neighbours.

The Czech public’s views of ethnic groups living in the Czech Republic – March 2020

In March 2020 Public Opinion Research Centre investigated attitudes of Czech public to fourteen national groups that are living in the Czech Republic in significant number.

The most positive relation was observed to Czechs, Slovaks, and Poles, the worst relation have Czechs to Roma people and Arabs.

Czech Public's Attitudes to the integration of Foreigners – March 2020

In March 2020 CVVM investigated Czech public's views with regard to foreigners who live in the long term or permanently in the Czech Republic. Majority (73 %) claimed that  foreigners living in the Czech Republic should become conformed to Czech cultural habits as much as possible, another of informants (24 %) said that foreigners should adapt to czech cultural habits just in some aspects. And 2 % said that foreigners should be allowed to live according to their habits.

Public opinion on foreign nationals settling in the Czech Republic – March 2020

In March 2018 the Public Opinion Research Centre examined as a part of its survey the opinions of the Czech public on long-term or permanently residing foreigners in the Czech Republic.

Specifically, there were examined attitudes whether there are too many, appropriate amount, or too few foreigners living in the country, whether foreigners should have the right for the long-term residing in the country and whether the state should allow them to settle here permanently. There were also examined the reasons for the acceptance of immigrants and whether they should adapt to Czech customs.

Public Opinion on the Role of Men and Women in Family - February 2020

In its February survey CVVM examined attitudes of Czech citizens to roles of men and women in family. According to the Czech public opinion should be the domain of men in a family doing common household repairs. Cooking and tidying up were considered as typical women's activities.
