Evaluation of information in Mass Media

As a part of October CVVM survey there were also some questions investigating how Czech citizens evaluate media. We were also focused on whether people think that monitored media inform them objectively, completely and whether media offer them complete list of important events. Currently the most widespread media is TV so we asked people how often they watch Media coverage.

The best evaluated was Channel - Česká televize (the main news programme – “Events“).

What is educational background influenced by?

Everybody has chance to get such education according to his/her abilities. In September survey this statement was agreed by more than a half of respondents (47 % rather agreed, 12 % definitely agreed). In the following question respondents had to evaluace influence of various circumstances and eventualities on educational background. Own abilities and diligence were considered as most important (95 % of answers – definitely important and rather important).

Level of education in the Czech Republic

In the survey on evaluation of level of education according the type of institution the positive evaluation prevailed. The highest level of education is according the respondents at grammar schools (23% mentioned the level of education as a „very good“, 53% mentioned the level of education as a „rather good“), at primary schools (74% positive answers, when 12% of them mentioned the answer „very good“) and at universities.

Evaluation of environment protection

In May survey CVVM focused on questions concerning environment. Respondents had to evaluate how some enchosen state institutions and ecological organizations take care of environment. The best evaluated were ecological organizations and local councils. Parliament was the the worst evaluated. Question, whether Czech Republic sufficiently cares about environment , has divided our respondents into two almost same parts.

Ecological behaviour

In May 2006 CVVM investigated topic – environment. 41% of respondents take always dangerous waste to special enchosen places and other 30 % does it often. Same number of respondents sort domestic waste (39% always and 36% often). The number of people, who exceptionally or never buy ecological friendly products, lower number of drives because of enviroment protection and save energies and water because of nature protection, prevails.

Public opinion about environment

As a part of May survey there were some questions concerning public opinion of environment. The results show us that most respondents are satisfied with environment in the place they live. Dissatisfaction with it was expressed by a quarter of respondents. Environment in Czech Republic is positively evaluated by a half of respondents on contrary almost a half of people are dissatisfied with it.

Public opinion of living together with Romany population and their chances at society

In April survey CVVM also focused on public attitude and public relationships between czech population and Romany minority. Survey showed us, that approximately three sixths of czech citizens (69 %) suppose living together (Romany and non-Romyny population) to be problematic. If we compare these data with previous surveys we can see, that since 1997 public attitude to relationships between Romany and non – Romany population has got better.

Citizens‘ satisfaction with living conditions close to their home

Approximately three fifths of respondents (61%) expressed their satisfaction with living conditions close to their home, almost a third of them stated that they are nor satisfied nor dissatisfied with it. Less than a tenth of czech population are dissatisfied with living conditions close to their home. People are mostly satisfied with gas, elektricity and water instalation and canalization. About three quarters of Czech citizens are satisfied with domestic waste disposal and with current level of shops and services.

Health care system reform : Public opinion on problems of Health system

Two thirds of respondents are dissatisfied with current state of czech health service.Financing of czech health service, drug management,running of insurance companies are supposed to be the main problems of czech health service. People perceive the problems in different areas of health service according to their own standart of living. More than four fifths of respondents highlighted need for reform of health care system.

Basic and secondary education: no need for change

Czech public is mostly satisfied with basic and secondary education. Number of respondents, who are not interested in education, raises with their higher age. Most of people do no need any reforms of secondary and basic education. Only 36% of respondents think the new reform is nedeed, while the need of reform did not depend on their age, education or political affiliation. About 50% of students would accept new reforms of basic and secondary education.
