Attitudes of the Czech Public to Climate Change on Earth – September/November 2022

In a survey conducted from the beginning of September to the beginning of November 2022, the CVVM SOÚ AV ČR dealt with the long-standing and highly debated topic of climate change on Earth. We were interested in what the Czech public thinks about this topic. Just under three-fifths (58%) of respondents are somewhat worried about the impacts of climate change (14% very worried, 44% somewhat worried), while 39% are not worried.

Evaluation of the state and protection of environment in the Czech Republic – September/November 2022

The Public Opinion Research Centre addressed environmental issues as part of its survey carried out between early September and early November 2022. In terms of the state of the environment, respondents rate the environment in their place of residence better (84%) compared to the overall state of the Czech Republic (75%), the best rating since 2002. The activity of municipal authorities (59% of positive answers) and environmental organisations (56% of positive answers) are the best rated in the field of environmental protection. More than four-fifths (84%) of respondents think that doing something for the environment is good, even if it costs time and money.

Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation - September/November of 2022

In the period from the first half of September to the beginning of November of 2022 within the regular survey the Public Opinion Research Centre questioned respondents about their confidence in constitutional institutions. In this survey there was a question about their trust to the Chambers of Parliament, the President, the Government, and Local and Regional Councils.

Citizens on Economic Situation of Their Households – September/November 2022

The Public Opinion Research Centre in its survey examined how Czech citizens perceive the financial situation of their households. They evaluated whether it is difficult to make ends meet with their earnings. Problems with current budget of their household were stated by 52% of respondents, on the other hand 47% said they have no problems with budget of the household.

Life Satisfaction of Czechs over Time – "Research on the Covid and Postcovid Eras"

The Centre for Public Opinion Research of the Institute of Sociology of the CAS focused on the topic of life satisfaction in its special research carried out within the project "Research on the Covid and Postcovid Eras". The aim of the research was to find out how satisfied Czech citizens are with their lives at present and to compare the results with their life satisfaction in the past or in the future. The life satisfaction of Czech citizens has not changed over time and can be considered above average overall. Life satisfaction is related to educational attainment, age, subjectively assessed standard of living and health status.

Attitudes of the Czech Public Towards Food Waste – Food 2022

Within the framework of the special research ‘Food 2022’, the Public Opinion Research Centre surveyed the attitudes of the Czech public towards food waste. Respondents were presented with 22 statements related to different dimensions of food waste and asked to decide on a five-point scale to what extent they agree or disagree with them.

Respondents most frequently (82%) agreed with the statement "during food preparation I take care to use everything possible". More than three-fifths (62%) of people agreed with the statement, "I have a bad conscience when I waste food". For two-thirds (66%), the appearance or smell of a particular food item is the deciding factor in whether or not to throw it away.

Environmentally friendly food consumption choices, shopping, and behaviour in Czech society – Food 2022

The Public Opinion Research Centre’s special ‘Food 2022’ survey contained several questions about environmentally friendly behaviours that relate to what foods people buy and what they eat. The most important factor the Czech public considers when shopping for food is price, followed by a food’s ingredients, while the least important factor is the food’s packaging. Almost three-fifths (58%) of respondents at least sometimes sort organic waste. The most commonly used methods are composting in the garden and brown bins (called composters).

Awareness of the Czech public about the Czech Federation of Food Banks – Food 2022

The CVVM SOÚ AV ČR included several questions about the Czech Federation of Food Banks in the special survey Food 2022.

A majority (51%) of the Czech public has never heard of the Czech Federation of Food Banks. The remaining 49% of respondents have heard of the Czech Federation of Food Banks, but only 6% of them know what it does well, 28% know roughly and 15% do not know what it does.

Disposal of Visually Imperfect Vegetables and Fruits as One of the Forms of Food Wasting – Food 2022

In a special study called Food 2022, CVVM SOÚ AV ČR asked for the opinions and attitudes of the Czech public on the issue of food wasting. One part was focused on the purchase of imperfect fruits and vegetables. 

If there were imperfect and perfectly shaped pieces of fruits and vegetables placed next to each other, 65% of the respondents would chose the perfect one, provided they had the same price.

Food Waste and the Shopping and Consumer Behaviour of Czech Households – Food 2022

In its special ‘Food 2022’ survey the Public Opinion Research Centre at the Institute of Sociology, Czech Academy of Sciences, examined the Czech public’s attitudes and opinions on the issue of food waste.

Almost half (47%) of the respondents consider food waste to be a big problem, more than two-fifths (44%) think food waste is not right, but there are more urgent problems that need to be solved and only less than one-tenth (9%) of the Czech public does not consider food waste to be a big problem in society.
