Popularity of politicians
In January survey, CVVM investigated whether the respondents confide in selected constitutional bodies. This time the submitted list included the names of 26 politicians
(all members of the government, president, ombudsman, chairmen of Senate and Chamber of Deputies, chairmen of Parlament Parties and euro-commissioner Špidla).
Now it is president Václav Klaus, who is viewed as the most trustworthy person among our top politicians.
Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation
In January 2005 Czech citizens expressed the highest level of trust to the president of the country, when 7 out of 10 respondents expressed their confidence in him. Local councils were found trustworthy by almost two thirds of the interviewees and almost half of the polled citizens trusted their regional council. In comparison to the previous months, the government’s position got better, 34% of respondents expressed their trust in goverment.
Party preferences in January 2005
All respondents having the right to vote were asked an open question (i.e. without a list of political parties being used) investigating which party they would vote for if an election to the Chamber of Deputies took place the following week. The structure of the answers given is summarised in the table (in %).

Public attitudes to the structure of political system
In December survey CVVM also focused on respondents‘ opinions on the structure of political system.
First question was - whether czech respondents would accept other non-democratic political systems in Czech Republic and what are general respondents‘opinions on other non-democratic regimes. The next question showed public opinions, whether it is possible, that there would start a non-democratic alternative of political system in next five years.
Public opinion of general problems
In December 2004 CVVM added a a question to its survey to analyse public opinions about state’s position in economical and social area.
Each of respondents was shown a list with five pairs of opposing statements, respondents had to express, what statement they agree definitily or probably with.
Interest of czech citizens in work abroad
12% of respondents were interested in work abroad, 7% respondents were no sure about it.
In comparison to a half of year 2003, interest in work abroad arose. While in 2003 only six respondents wanted to leave for a job abroad, in December 2004 it was 12 % of repondents.
Czech citizens want to work in Germany or in United Kingdom (both 24 % of repondents)
Little less people would like to work in the USA and in Ireland.
Public opinion on re-election of american president Gerge W.Bush
Almost half of czech citizens (48%) were ( some at least partly) interested in american presidential elections. One out of ten respondents expressed, that he is deeply interested in it. On the contrary a third was very little interested in presidential elections in the USA. 19% of respondents did not care about it at all.As an often expressed public attitude to result of american presidential elections appeared an indifferent answer „ Neither satisfied nor dissatisfied“ (46%).
Economic situation of czech households
Between November and December 2004 more than a third of repondents (36%) supposed the living standart of their household to be good. 40 %of repondents regard it as neither good or bad and almost a quarter of respondents(24%) consider living standart of their household to be bad. A half of respondents judge their economic situation of their households to be quite satisfactory and 4% assess it to be very satisfactory.
Acceptance of some kinds of behaviour
In October 2004 some addressed citizens had to judge how are some kinds of behaviour acceptable and non-acceptable. Most of the monitored kinds of behaviour was more or less acceptable for respondents. The only statement that could be called acceptable was protection of private property though the thief could be injured or killed.
Public opinions about determination of priorities in population politics
In November survey CVVM interrogated the citizens about their opinions on introduction or application of provision, which could be called for popularisation of population. Major part of respondents voted for almost all of these provisions (definitely yes, probably yes).
Opinions of Citizens about post of an Office of a General Ombudsman
In a research realized in December 2004 CVVM focused on attitude of czech public to Office of a General Ombudsman. Almost 7 out of 10 respondents answered a question correctly, that the Office of a general Ombudsman is represented by Otakar Motejl. Almost a quarter of respondents admitted to not to remember, who holds Office of an Ombudsman,
6% of responents chose wrong answer.The confidence in Office of General Ombudsman was expressed by almost a half of czech citizens.
