Attitude of Czech Public to Accepting of Refugees from Ukraine – February/March 2023

In a survey that was conducted between the end of January and the end of the second decade of March 2023, the Centre for Public Opinion Research surveyed a set of questions concerning the attitudes of the Czech public towards accepting refugees from Ukraine. The respondents specifically expressed their attitudes towards the admittance of Ukrainian refugees and the possibility of their permanent settlement in the Czech Republic. The survey also included a mapping of interest in current developments around this situation.

Confidence in selected institutions at the turn of 2022 and 2023

In the survey of the Public Opinion Research Centre of the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in the period from November 2022 to January 2023, a representative sample of citizens of the Czech Republic was asked whether they trust the selected institutions. The survey specifically investigated trust in relation to the Public Defender of Rights (ombudsman), the Constitutional Court and the Czech National Bank.

Happiness with the state of selected areas of public life – November/December 2022

In the end of 2022, citizens of the Czech Republic evaluated how satisfied they are with the situation in 30 selected areas of public life.

The best evaluated areas are the selection of goods and services (70% satisfied) and culture (67%). The worst evaluated items are corruption (72% dissatisfied), and public finances (73%).

Popularity of Top Politicians in the Turn of Years 2022/2023

In the period from November 2022 to the beginning of January 2023 the Public Opinion Researcch Centre investigated whether respondents trust to top politicians. In a survey there were included names of leaders of parties holding seats in the Chamber of Deputies, members of government, heads of both parliament chambers, and the president.

Security Threats for the Czech Republic in View of Public - November and December 2022

In November and December 2022, respondents had to assess security threats related to selected groups in the Czech Republic and they were also expressing views on threats by war, epidemics, natural disasters, economic crisis or resource crisis. These two questions were amended with an open question trying to find out, which countries represent a security threat for the Czech Republic. The survey also focused on expectations concerning the future of the personal life of citizens, the future of the Czech society and the future of the whole humankind.

Part of the questions examined citizens' interest in the energy policy of the Czech Republic and also focused on the issue of the so-called European Green Agreement from 2020.

Czech Public Opinion on Nuclear Energy – Autumn 2022

In its Autumn 2022 survey, the Our Society series included a battery of questions on issues of nuclear energy. The survey examined public opinion about whether the proportion of nuclear energy in electricity production should increase or decrease in future, what people think about building a new unit of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station (DNPS), whether or not they are concerned about the use of nuclear energy in the country, and whether they have confidence in the government’s decisions about the development of nuclear energy. A newly included question also asked whether citizens know how the Czech state manages nuclear waste.
