Evaluation of the situation in some areas and expected development of these areas in year 2007

In our country people are most satisfied with supply of goods and services (77 % of respondents expressed their satisfaction), with current situation of Czech culture and with relationships of the Czech Republic with foreign countries. On contrary dissatisfaction prevails with areas such as corruption and economical criminality. 79 % of Czech citizens are dissatisfied with economical criminality and 82 % of people are discontented with corruption.

Public opinion on some legislative changes

In January survey the interviewers of the Centre for Public Opinion Research questioned respondents about their attitude to some concrete legislative changes that were introduced from 1 January 2007. At least eight out of ten people agree with pension increase (91 %), special care benefit (90 %), right to expel the attacker from home (89 %), children benefit increase (86 %), parental benefit (86 %), TV commercial time cut (86 %), new social benefit – „immediate help“ (80 %), birth grant increase (80 %), minimum wages increase (84 %).

Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation in January 2007

In the long term president of our country has been the most trustworthy Czech constitutional institution. Currently 72 % of Czech citizens trust to president. The lowest number of trustees is shared by both Chambers of Parliament. 23 % of respondents expressed trust to Chamber of Deputies and more than one quarter (27 %) to Senate. On the other hand more people find local representations trustworthy: Regional Councils are supposed to be trustworthy by a half of Czech citizens (50 %) and almost two thirds of citizens (65 %) trust to their Local Council.

Party Preferences and Voting Model in January 2007

In January survey CVVM investigated how people trust to political Parties and whether they are willing to take part in elections to Chamber of Deputies. In the press release there are two different types of information : Party preference and a model of voting behaviour.

Party preferences give us information about public sympathy with political Parties in the group of citizens who have voting right and there is also included a part of citizens who will not take part in elections or they do not knot who to vote for.

Czech Health system in View of Public

In December 2006 CVVM SOÚ AV ČR focused also on topic Health System and Health Care in the Czech Republic. Approximately a third of Czech citizens(32 %) expressed their satisfaction with Health System in the Czech Republic, only a little less people said that they are not satisfied with it (29 %). More than a half of respondents (51 %) think that quality of Health Care has not changed very much last year.

Public relationship to other nationalities II.

December CVVM survey was focused on Czech relationship to other nations and nationalities. Respondents were shown a list with 24 nationalities and they were asked to evaluate these nationalities with marks from 1 to 7 according to their sympathies for these nationalities (1 – very sympathetic and 7-very unsympathetic). Respondents find Czechs as the most sympathetic nation (on average 1,7).

Evaluation of Last Year's Development

When judging development of situation in some areas in last year Czech society take the most critical attitude to problems of corruption, economic criminality and to current political situation in the Czech Republic. Critical opinions prevail positive ones also in case of development of ordinary criminality and citizens´security, agriculture, social securities, transport service and health service.

Confidence in selected institutions in the Czech Republic and other countries of Visegrad Group

As a part of December public opinion survey made by CVVM there was a question investigating confidence in selected public institutions. Media (radio 70 %, TV 64 %, press 57 % - number of answers definitely trust and rather trust) and Army (63 %) enjoy the highest level of trust expressed by Czechs. More than a half of respondents trust to Justice (51 % of trustees). The number of those who trust in other institutions is lower than number of those who express their distrust into these institutions.

Relationship to traditions

In December survey, there was included a question focused on respondents´relationship to traditions. They talked about what concrete kinds of traditions are significant for them. The answers represented different types of traditions – national, religious and familial and folk ones. The survey showed that more than a half of Czechs consider traditions as important, excepting the „attendance of divine services“.
