Evaluation of activities of Parties and monitored institutions

In September survey CVVM asked respondents: „How would you evaluate activity of following Parties and institutions in last twelve months? Markit same as at school.1 means best evaluation, 5 means worst evaluation.

President, media and prime minister were best evaluated, their avarage mark was mark below 3. Senate,KSČM and US-DEU were worst evaluated, their avarage mark was above 3.50.Similar question has been used since 1996.

Popularity of Party representatives

In September survey, the Public Opinion Research Centre investigated whether the interviewed people confide in selected politicians. This time the submitted list included the names of 26 representatives of the parties present in the Chamber of Deputies. The respondents expressed the highest level of confidence in prime minister Jiří Paroubek (53%), second place got 1.vice-chairman of ČSSD and minister of Finance Bohuslav Sobotka (40%).

Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation

In September 2005 Czech citizens expressed the highest level of trust to the president of the country, when 71 % respondents expressed their confidence in him. Number of those who find president trustworthy is quite stable for several months. 42 % of respondents trusted in government in the beginning of September. Citizens‘ confidence in government has been rising since May. As usual both Chambers were found least trustworthy.

Party preferences in September 2005

All respondents having the right to vote were asked an open question (i.e. without a list of political parties being used) investigating which party they would vote for if an election to the Chamber of Deputies took place the following week. The structure of the answers given is summarised in the table (in %).

Satisfaction with current state of some monitored areas

Czech citizens are most satisfied with supply of goods and services.Majot part of people are satisfied with current state of czech culture. Almost a half of citizens are satisfied with relationships of Czech Republic to foreign states and czech environment.In other monitored areas dissatisfaction prevailed satisfaction. People are mostly dissatisfied with current state of corruption (83% dissatisfied),economic criminality (80%) and unemployment (76%) in Czech Republic.

Citizens‘ discussions about political topic, and their ideas of influencies upon decisions of politicians

In June survey CVVM found out that czech citizens mostly discuss about political topics with their family members and friends. Then respondents expressed their idea of influencies upon decisions of politicians. According to respondents bribes and corruption mainly influence decisions of politicians and lobbists influence them as well. The citizens are supposed to have the least influence upon decisions of politicians.

Monitoring of News Coverage

According to June survey Czech citizens watch mostly news programmes on Czech Television and TV Nova. A half of respondents think these news programmes, which they watch regularly, inform us about important events. A third of repondents watch news programmes every day.

The economic situation and material living conditions from the perspective of public opinion in central european comparison

Generally, critical evaluation of the current economic situation prevailed positive evaluation. . The highest degree of satisfaction was recorded in Czech Republic (12% good, 41% - bad economic situation, 42 % no good or bad), and the highest in Slovakia (70% bad, 2% good). Lower degree of satisfaction is in Hungary, where almost a half or citizens (48%) critically consider current economic situation, only 1 out of 20 citizens stated positive evaluation.

Agreement on EU constitution in eyes of czech public

More than a third of czech citizens (36%) are satisfied with EU membership of the Czech Republic. A fifth of respondents are dissatisfied with it.The ambivalent opinions about satisfaction with membership of Czech Republic in European Union is shared by a 37% of czech citizens. 43% of czech public agree with existence of a united European Constitution. A third of public expressed their negative opinion about it.

The most serious problems of Czech Republich from the view of public

The respondents often consider various aspects of economical development to be the most serious problems of Czech Republic and first of all is unemployment. The other area af problems consists of corruption, economic or general crime, and poor work of the police and courts in the enforcement of law. Essential part of respondents regarded various general or concrete problems from czech political area as most serious problems.

Earth-friendly behaviour

May survey contained a topic – environment. More than four fifths of respondents agreed that every single attempt to save the environment is important.

37% of respondents take always dangerous waste to special enchosen places. And other 35 % does it often. Same number of respondents sort domestic waste (33% always, 42 % often). A third of respondents take part in activities organized under companies for environment protection such as working groups and revitalisation of nature.
